Sons from Afar by Cynthia Voigt download in ePub, pdf, iPad

Magnus the Red The world of Prospero was, as records report, originally a place of pure desolation. The planet that remained was largely useless and abandoned, completely riddled with catacombs, crumbling industrial plant and exhausted mine-workings. But today you face the Emperor's sons and His warriors.

As one by one the Primarchs

Silence ascended, as the heavy tink sound of a monstrous expended brass casing struck the ground. Thus, Horus grew to maturity amongst the anarchic gangers that populated the post-industrial nightmare of a world honeycombed with long-extinct mines and dominated by decaying hive city spires. Other Legions, sometimes hostile to the interference of their fellow Space Marines, would request campaign placement amongst the Luna Wolves and welcome it in return. Their primary methods of victory included the use of diplomatic guile and trickery, a modus operandi that was not questioned by the rest of the Imperium. They were as stalwart and indefatigable as any of the servants of the Emperor and their actions exemplified what it meant to be a warrior of the Space Marine Legions.

Another source claims that Horus returned to Terra itself. Soon tensions flared, and several of the Space Wolves charged the Thousand Sons. But in defeating the Primarch, the Emperor had suffered such wounds that only His ascension to the life-sustaining Golden Throne could keep death at bay. Many of these new enemies of Mankind employed psychic powers similar to those that the Thousand Sons wielded. The Ullanor Crusade marked the high point of the Great Crusade's vast effort to reunite the scattered colony worlds of humanity.

Mutants and psykers lived in reclusion and study on the world, safe from the prejudice and hatred of their fellow humans. It was the Wolf King himself who had ended Hastur's suffering. The first four systems easily fell to the combined efforts of the Space Wolves and the Word Bearers. Examples of this change came slowly. As legend tells, the two recognized each other immediately.

These recruits were also drawn in part from the Emperor's subjugated enemies, and together they represented the first generation of Space Marines. This caused his body to spontaneously mutate uncontrollably, which caused panic within the ranks of the Thousand Sons, and resulted in further mutations amongst some of its members. The people of this world had chosen to fight the Imperium, and therefore had chosen death.

This final battle was won in a matter of hours, with only a fraction of casualties incurred by Imperial forces. As one by one the Primarchs were united with their sire and their brothers, Horus came increasingly to be regarded as the greatest of their number, the first among equals. As a result, Horus was for many standard years the Emperor's only son, and there was a great affinity between them. The Thousand Sons were a Space Marine Legion bound up with occult lore, mysticism and the otherworldly powers of the psyker.

The wearing of pelts of such augmented canid predators increasingly marked out the field commanders and officers of the Luna Wolves. Horus emerged from his illness changed, and the practise of establishing Warrior Lodges spread throughout the Legions. The Space Wolves pointed out to their cousin Legion that the Avenians were an unrepentant and degenerate society who refused to accept the Imperial Truth.

For thirty standard years, the Emperor and Horus fought the opening campaigns of the Great Crusade side by side, the Primarch learning at the foot of his sire. The Thousand Sons Primarch Magnus was enthralled by the planet's mountain and the tomb of the dormant Daiesthai. Suddenly, a thunderous bang sounded and Hastar's body exploded as a single, explosive round detonated within his chest. The first wave of the Legions sent to confront Horus made planetfall, only to discover themselves in the midst of treachery.
